Brant OPPImpaired driver charged after near collision with police cruiser

A 24-year-old fromBrantford has been arrested and charged with impaired driving after almost colliding with an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) vehicle.

On Thursday August 3, 2023, at approximately 9:06 p.m., a West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) member was conducting proactive patrols in the Oakland area.

A vehicle traveled through an intersection, causing the ERT member to take evasive action to avoid a collision. A traffic stop was initiated where one person was arrested and transported to Brant County OPP detachment for testing.

Police have charged 24-year-old Zachary Robert BROTZ, from the City of Brantford with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
  • Disobey stop sign – fail to stop and
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Brantford, Ontario at a later date.
