Immigration Partnership to host Newcomer Welcome Day

City of BrantfordImmigration Partnership to host Newcomer Welcome Day

Brantford Immigration Partnership (BIP) will be hosting a Newcomer Welcome Day at Mohawk Park in Brantford on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.

Several community organizations will be on-hand to share resources and answer questions from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interpreters will also be available for select languages including: Ukrainian, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, and Tagalog.

The Brantford Immigration Partnership (BIP), launched in April 2020, to help build a better understanding of the unique perspectives of immigrants, strengthen community partnerships to enhance services, and celebrate inclusion and cultural diversity in our city.

“Our goal is to provide a valuable opportunity for newcomers to make meaningful connections and easily access useful community resources,” said Lily Lumsden, Senior Regional Manager at YMCA Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford. “We look forward to sharing important information with families and having lots of fun in the process.”

This family-friendly event will feature an information fair where attendees can learn about key programs and services available across all public sectors. The event will also feature a variety of family-friendly activities, entertainment, and prizes.

“Brantford is proud to be a culturally vibrant community that strives to provide newcomers with the support they need to succeed and participate in the economic, social, civic, and cultural growth of our city,” said Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis. “I very much look forward to joining the Brantford Immigration Partnership on their Newcomer Welcome Day to show my appreciation for those who work together to make Brantford a more welcoming place for everyone.”

Activities will include picnic games such as cornhole, Connect-4, and snakes and ladders, as well as cultural dances, music, and more. Children are welcome to bring their bathing suits and cool off in the Sprinklemania Splash Pad. Food and refreshments will be available, while supplies last.
