Fowler Bridge undergoing scheduled maintenance

County of BrantFowler Bridge undergoing scheduled maintenance

Fowler Bridge, located in Burford, will be closed from Friday, August 7, 2026 through Friday, August 21, 2026.

The bridge, located at the stretch of East Quarter Townline Road between Sixth Concession Road and Highway 53, is undergoing scheduled maintenance. The work concrete includes patching on the bridge deck, curbs and other structural elements, and replacement of the expansion joint seal.

The closure of Fowler Bridge falls under the County’s broader bridge inspection and rehabilitation program and it is considered routine maintenance. The scope of the work will not be finalized until it is assessed by the inspectors and checking how much patching the deck and structural elements ultimately require, the assessment is also a determining factor if there is more re-paving needed before the re-opening of the bridge.

County of Brant posted a map of detour routes along with the notice of closure with dates and additional information prior to the construction work.

Fowler Bridge, located in Burford, will be closed from Friday, August 7, 2026 through Friday, August 21, 2026.

According to the County of Brant, driveway access, municipal services or garbage collection will not be affected for the residents along the route. The drivers that were using the bridge before, for them the construction simply means taking a loop through Maple Avenue North and Sixth Concession Road rather than a direct crossing over the bridge.

David Miller, Ward Four Councillor for the County of Brant, said he has not heard directly from any residents about the closure, but spoke on the timing being difficult for farmers in the impacted area.

“For the large farmers in the area, this is more than a large inconvenience, as they are in full harvest season with tobacco, broccoli and several other crops.” said Miller.

Fowler Bridge, located in Burford, will be closed from Friday, August 7, 2026 through Friday, August 21, 2026.

Miller continued, saying most of the residents do understand the need for periodic maintenance and repairs and they do adjust to the two-week closure.

“I am very grateful it is not longer” said Miller. “I doubt inclement weather (the rain) will slow anything down unless we get the deluge that St. Catharines got hit with” said Miller, “These guys work through all kinds of weather, so they know how to deal with some wet conditions”
