Fire DepartmentEmergency personnel respond to fire in Brantford

Emergency crews were on scene after a fire broke out in a vacant building at a plaza on Colborne Street in the early hours on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Members of the Brantford Fire Department Fire received reports of the blaze shortly before 2:00 a.m.

Fire officials said it started in a former bowling alley and burned into an Army, Navy, Air Force club, describing it as “a stubborn fire that was hard to put out.”

According to officials, the fire started in a vacant building, and the cause remains unknown at this time.

An official with Brantford Police Service explained that any vacant building that has fire damage is considered suspicious, but the investigation is in its preliminary stages.

There have been no reports of injuries.

Police said they were on scene for much of the day, and the plaza was closed off to the public.
