The County of Brant Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) team participated in its annual emergency training exercise on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
This year’s simulated incident involved a water advisory in the community of Cainsville and an explosion in St. George. As part of the exercise, a Reception Centre was established at the Brant Sports Complex, a location for residents affected by the emergencies to attend, a Customer Contact Centre was set up to assist with the influx of calls expected, and an Incident Command Post was initiated.
“Emergency training events are vital for County Council, staff and community partners,” said David Bailey, Mayor for the County of Brant. “They help us prepare for real-life emergencies and ensure we understand our roles and responsibilities. These exercises strengthen our ability to respond effectively and protect our community.”
The exercise included participation from members of County of Brant Council, County of Brant staff, County of Brant Fire Department, Brant-Brantford Paramedics, Brant OPP, Grand Erie Public Health, City of Brantford Social Services, Enbridge Inc., GrandBridge Energy and Victim Services of Brant.
“This year’s scenario challenged us to respond to several complex and high-risk situations,” said Alison Newton, Chief Administrative Officer and Emergency Operations Centre Commander for the County of Brant. “I’m proud of the collaboration and professionalism demonstrated by our EOC team. Having the knowledge and skills available during these exercises gives us the confidence we need should an emergency occur and are essential to maintaining our readiness and resilience.”
The County of Brant is required under the Ontario Regulation 380/04 to engage in annual emergency training. Undertaking an annual exercise and having key personnel participating in training is a key component of being prepared and building Brant’s resiliency.
