County of Brant provided an update to residents regarding their Age-Friendly Community Plan.

The plan was submitted to the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility in July 2021.  In September 2021, County of Brant Council approved the plan.

The County of Brant’s population is aging. The population base of those aged 75 and over is forecasted to more than double by 2051. This will be the fastest growing segment of the population.
This Age-Friendly Plan represents the County of Brant’s commitment to enhancing the physical and social environments for the 41,000 residents spread across 843.25 square kilometers, “including towns, villages, hamlets, rural, and agricultural areas, all boosting unique features and charming qualities that come together to form a place for everyone to call home.”
The purpose of the Age-Friendly Plan is to provide direction to the various departments of the County of Brant regarding opportunities to enhance the age-friendliness of the community. The Plan has been designed with adults aged 55 plus and will focus on what can be done through various departments within the County of Brant over the next 10 years to address age-friendly social and physical environments.
To continue to support the needs of the aging population, recommended areas of focus have been developed under the following domains: outdoor spaces and buildings. transportation, housing, social participation, respect and social inclusion, civic participation and employment, communication and information and community support and health services.
