County issues statement regarding Municipal Airport

AirportCounty issues statement regarding Municipal Airport

County of Brant issued a statement regarding potential re-structuring options for the land surrounding the Municipal Airport on Tuesday, March 24, 2025.

“At the Airport Board meeting on November 17, 2025, a resolution was introduced recommending that Brantford City Council submit a request under Section 174 of the Municipal Act, 2021, asking the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to examine potential restructuring options for the Airport lands. The Airport is owned and operated by the City of Brantford, while the underlying land is within the jurisdiction of the County of Brant.

The Airport Board approved the recommendation, with Mayor David Bailey casting the only dissenting vote. The resolution was subsequently adopted at the next scheduled City of Brantford Council meeting and forwarded to the Province. It is also presumed that the City presented related information during its delegation at the 2026 ROMA Conference.

On March 10, 2026, the County of Brant received official communication from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing directing that negotiations commence between the County of Brant and the City of Brantford regarding a boundary adjustment for the Airport lands. A facilitator has been appointed to support these discussions. County Council received this communication on March 24, 2026.

The correspondence, supported by MPP Will Bouma, sets a deadline of June 30, 2026 for both municipalities to reach an agreement.

While the County of Brant is disappointed by the manner in which this process was initiated and by the compressed timelines, Council and staff remain committed to achieving the best possible outcome for County residents, City residents, the Province and First Nations. We will approach these discussions in good faith and expect that our counterparts at the City of Brantford will do the same.”
