County firefighters to hold controlled burns this month

County of BrantCounty firefighters to hold controlled burns this month

The County of Brant Fire Department will be having two controlled burns this June to train firefighters and officers in sizing up fire attacks and fire dynamics.

“Controlled burns allow us to provide real-life training for our crews in a safe and controlled manner,” said Fire Chief Darren Watson. “This training will include all levels of firefighters from new recruits to seasoned firefighters and our Fire Safety Officers.”

A size-up of a fire attack is the continuous evaluation of a fire or emergency scene. It begins with the receipt of an alarm and continues until the fire is under control. Fire dynamics explores how fires start, spread, develop and extinguish.

The two controlled burns are scheduled as follows:

  • Saturday, June 17 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at 41 East Quarter Townline Road in Scotland.
  • Saturday, June 24 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at 68 German School Road in St. George

“Please avoid the areas if possible, during the controlled burns as it will be smoky and a number of fire service vehicles will be on-site,” said Chief Watson.
