County of Brant is developing a long-term Solid Waste Management Master Plan to help shape how waste is collected, managed, and reduced across the County over the next 25 years.
“Effective waste management is crucial for the health and sustainability of our community,” said David Bailey, Mayor for the County of Brant. “With a growing population and changing environmental expectations, this plan will help us make smart, responsible decisions for today and for future generations. I encourage all residents to share their insights and help shape a plan that reflects our collective commitment to environmental stewardship.”
The Solid Waste Management Master Plan will act as a strategic roadmap for short-term (now to 2027), medium-term (2027–2040), and long-term (2040 and beyond) planning. The County will assess how our current programs are working, explore new waste reduction and diversion opportunities, and evaluate how to deliver practical, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible services into the future.
“This is our chance to reimagine the way we manage waste in the County of Brant,” said Andrea Bazzard, Director of Environmental Services for the County of Brant. “We’re looking at everything from curbside collection to landfill use and transfer station operations. Community feedback is essential in helping us plan for a sustainable system that meets the needs of residents.”
The County’s current solid waste services support thousands of households and businesses, but with new provincial regulations, population growth, and increasing environmental concerns, a modern, forward-looking plan is needed. The Master Plan will also build on previous public input, including insights collected during the 2023 Garbage and Recycling Review.
It’s important to note that while the County’s Blue Box program transitioned to provincial producer responsibility as of January 1, 2025, that change is not part of this Master Plan. The new plan will focus on all other aspects of solid waste, including potential improvements, new programs, and innovative ways to reduce waste and divert materials from landfills.
The municipality is inviting residents to attend an open house at the Brant Sports Complex in Paris on Monday, May 26, 2025, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm to speak with staff about the project and to share thoughts on the programs and practices being considered to help shape the County’s Solid Waste Master Plan.
