Construction now underway on Grand River Street North in Paris

County of BrantConstruction now underway on Grand River Street North in Paris

Construction on Grand River Street North in Paris began earlier this week.

Works include the replacement of watermain and sanitary sewers from 100 metres south of Trillium Way to Hartley Avenue. This is the first phase of a multi-year project for upgrades to Grand River Street North as recommended through the Grand River Street North Corridor Environmental Study Report and the Paris Master Servicing Plan.

The County of Brant is monitoring the construction closely and will continue to implement safety measures as required. During our inspection last night, we noticed a significant number of vehicles disobeying signage. As a result, additional signage will be put in place today and over this week as it becomes available from the contractor.

A reminder that during this construction, traffic will be managed by the following:

  • Grand River Street North will be reduced to one lane, one way in the southbound direction only.
  • All northbound traffic will be detoured along Silver Street, Oak Avenue and Scott Avenue.
  • Intersections and driveways will be open but will require one-to-two-day closures from time to time throughout the work.
  • All businesses will remain open during construction.

Additional safety measures have also been implemented along the detour routes including speed humps, speed display signage, and a temporary school crosswalk on Oak Avenue at Whitlaw Way. Residents are reminded to please obey all signage.

Please refer to Municipal 511 http://www.municipal511.ca for the most up-to-date traffic information regarding road construction and closures.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns regarding the project, please contact the County’s Capital Project Manager, Joe Murphy at 519.44BRANT (519.442.7268).

Future phases of the work will include the widening of Grand River Street North along with replacement of curbs and sidewalk and the installation of roundabouts at intersection locations. Works in 2024 will include the installation of a roundabout at Scott Avenue and continuing north toward Hartley Avenue as well as the reconstruction of the signalized intersection at Silver Street and extension of a new street from that intersection to the east. Future works are subject to budget approval and further notice of these works will be provided once approved.
