City of Brantford launches Healthy Kids Action Plan

Local NewsCity of Brantford launches Healthy Kids Action Plan

The City of Brantford has launched the Healthy Kids Action Plan 2024-2028, bringing together community partners from business, sport, culture and recreation to respond to the emerging needs of children in Brantford.

Healthy Kids Bright Futures focuses on providing engaging activities and educational opportunities to enhance children’s positive development and prepare them for school. According to the Early Development Instrument (EDI), children in Brantford score lower than the provincial average in childhood development measurements of physical health and well-being, social competency, emotional maturity, language and cognitive development and communication skills and general knowledge.

“The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic School Board (BHNCDSB) is excited to support the Healthy Kids Bright Futures initiative. We are proud to work alongside agencies focusing on building children’s talents and well-being as noted in the EDI scores for our area. It is partnerships like this, within our communities, that offers children and families supports needed for success and better outcomes,” said Lorrie Ann Temple, Superintendent of Education, Early Years, BHNCDSB

With a coordinated community effort, a robust awareness campaign and Healthy Kids’ broad network of partners, children and families will be provided the knowledge and tools to meet age-appropriate skills and behaviour expectations.

“Building a brighter future starts with healthy kids. Healthy Kids All Kids is a timely initiative in nurturing the next generation’s well-being and vitality, creating a city where every child thrives. I extend my best wishes for this unique initiative,” said Imam Abu Noman Tarek, Muslim Council of Brantford

The City of Brantford is increasingly diverse and has committed to an Inclusive Community Plan that has three guiding principles: Learn from Each Other, Stand Up for Each Other, and Celebrate Each Other. The Healthy Kids All Kids initiative will support a welcoming environment for all children to participate in local activities. It will provide training and tools to local sport, art, culture and recreation organizations to support them in welcoming and including all children, contributing to an inclusive community.

“On behalf of Brantford City Council, I am proud to launch the Healthy Kids Action Plan, an initiative that underscores our commitment to the well-being and development of our community’s children. Through engaging activities and partnerships, we are creating a supportive environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive and succeed. Together, let’s build healthier, brighter futures for our youngest residents,” added Kevin Davis, Mayor for the City of Brantford.
