Families are invited to experience the joy of storytelling and celebrate Family Literacy Day at the branches of the County of Brant Library on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
Activities will take place at County of Brant Public Library branches in Burford, Glen Morris, Paris, Scotland-Oakland and St. George.
Family Literacy Day was created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Held annually on January 27, this year marks the 25th year of Family Literacy Day.
“Knowledge meets fun with literacy-focused activities, highlighting the importance of family bonding through the pages of books, imagination, and free play. The day will surely be a memorable and educational experience for young minds and the young at heart.”
Celebrations include:
● A book character scavenger Hunt
● Family Literacy Day poster decorating
● Make and Play Drop-In – 10 AM-12 PM (Scotland-Oakland Branch)
● Saturday Storytime – 10:30-11:30 (Paris Branch)
● A bookmark design contest
● Book-themed stickers and free copies of an early literacy calendar
