Brantford to host information series on Elder Abuse Awareness and Prevention

The City of Brantford, in partnership with Victim Services Brant and Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario, will be hosting the Let’s Stay Informed series, to assist the community on staying informed about elder abuse and provide increased access to resources and support.

This program is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.

“It’s important that we continue to support older adults in the City of Brantford by actively working to spread awareness about elder abuse,” said Penny McVicar from Victim Services of Brant. “Through informative series such as Let’s Stay Informed, we can continue to recognize, address and prevent elder abuse within our community.”

The first free session, Protecting Yourself and Your Loved Ones against Financial Abuse, presented by Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario, will take place on Tuesday, December 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Woodman Park Community Centre.

The second session Elder Abuse Service Provider Protocol Training, presented by Victim Services of Brant, will take place on Thursday, December 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and will be offered virtually through Zoom. Please indicate what organization you are from, how many individuals will be attending from your organization and a contact email. This session is meant for and only available to those who provide service to seniors in Brantford.

The third session Understanding Ones Rights as a Senior, to Protect and Prevent Against Ageism, presented by Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario, will take place on Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will be offered virtually through Zoom.

The final session Understanding Financial Abuse and Power of Attorney’s Through Story Telling, presented by Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario, will be published on YouTube and the City’s Preventing Elder Abuse webpage on Thursday, February 15, 2023. This session will be a pre-recorded webinar available online at Brantford.ca/HealthyLiving. Registration is not required.
