The Brantford Symphony Orchestra received a $10,000 grant from the Ontario Arts Council on Monday, September 30, 2023.
The grant will be used to fund the Indigenous collaboration concert on October 3rd at the Sanderson Centre, featuring Sultans of String and Friends.
Since the pandemic, ticket sales have been lower than normal but are slowly on the rise. Our revenue is not enough to cover production expenses, especially guest artist fees for this special collaboration. Our goal is to provide awareness of Indigenous values with the Action Plan on Reconciliation to residents of Brantford and surrounding communities, including Six Nations and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Thanks to the $10,000 grant from the Ontario Arts Council this goal is being realized.
“The Arts have struggled for funding in Canada and Covid has certainly highlighted this challenge,” said Joann Alho, Co-Chair of the Brantford Symphony Orchestra. “All cultural organizations appreciate and need continued financial support from all levels of government.
Sincere thanks to the Ontario Arts Council without whom this important project would not have been feasible.”
