Brantford Red Sox opened their 2026 season on a losing note, dropping a 13-1 decision to the Welland Jackfish on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Red Sox SP Colbey Klepper got the opening day start for Brantford and had a solid outing, starting with a three-up, three-down top of the first. Brantford’s bats didn’t muster any offence against Jackfish SP Ben Abram in the bottom of the first, going down in order.

Both starting pitchers kept the hitters at bay through the first three innings before Welland took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth. The Jackfish jumped over Sox RP Noah Law, recording four singles and a sac fly to take the three-run lead.

While the Red Sox bats remained silent over the next several innings, Welland recorded another run in the sixth before blowing the game wide open in the top of the seventh. The inning began with Red Sox RP Anthony Porcellato walking four of the first five batters he faced. The Jackfish added four singles and a double to score nine runs and take a commanding 13-0 lead.

The Red Sox responded with a lone run in the bottom of the ninth but it was too little, too late as the Jackfish easily held on for the victory.
