Brantford man charged with assault

Officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a Sheridan Street residence in regard to a report of a break and enter at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
Officers attended the location and received information to indicate a man entered the residence thru the front door. The accused was confronted by two residents, who asked him to leave. The accused refused to leave, broke a lamp, and physically hit and verbally threatened one of the residents. 
The victims and the accused were known to each other.
The accused, Shawn Joseph BERGMAN, 36, of Brantford, was subsequently arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Assault 
  • Break and Enter and Commit 
  • Mischief Under $5,000 
  • Uttering threats to cause death

The accused was held for bail.
