Brantford Clock Tower to chime hourly starting Family Day

City of BrantfordBrantford Clock Tower to chime hourly starting Family Day

Brantford’s newly restored clock will chime hourly, starting on Family Day, Monday, February 19, 2024.

In the fall of 2022, the City of Brantford announced the successful restoration of the historic clock at the top of Brantford’s City Hall. The clock, serving as a focal point in the city’s downtown for over a century, underwent comprehensive restoration work, including modernizing the clock mechanisms and replacing clock faces, hands, panes, and caulking.

As part of the restoration process, the City engaged with the community last summer to gather input on the programming of the Clock Tower Bell. The public was invited to share their opinions on the days of the week, frequency, and number of rings for the bell. The results from this consultation have played a crucial role in determining the schedule for the iconic bell.

An overwhelming majority of respondents to the Clocktower Bell survey said the Clock Tower Bell should ring out every day of the week. A majority of respondents also favoured the bell ringing at the top of each hour.

Kevin Davis, Mayor for the City of Brantford, emphasized the importance of public input.

“Public input from the community as a whole, and especially those who live, work, and study in the downtown, was very important in determining the schedule for when the bell rings out,” said Davis. “This is such an iconic centrepiece of the downtown and an important part of the city’s history. I’m very pleased that the restoration work is finally complete and can be enjoyed by the community and visitors to the city for decades to come.”

The Clock Tower Bell will ring out hourly from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. each day. The number of rings will be consistent with the hour, adding charm and ambiance to the experience for all residents and visitors.
