City of Brantford and the County of Brant officially recognized the work of FIS staff and the City’s Facilities team to retrofit the lower level of 225 Colborne St. to better accommodate FIS staff and clients, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
Earlier this year, the City announced that the Ontario Works Brantford-Brant main office, including Family and Income Stability (FIS) Services, would be moving from 220 Colborne Street to a new location across the street at 225 Colborne Street.
Kevin Davis, Mayor for the City of Brantford, along with Brantford City Councillors Linda Hunt and Mandy Samwell, and municipal staff, including Brian Hutchings, CAO for the City of Brantford, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Beginning last month, clients have been attending 225 Colborne Street, Unit 101 for pre-booked in-person appointments and to drop off and to pick up documents to facilitate services.
Ontario Works (OW) is a social assistance program designed to provide temporary financial assistance and employment support to individuals who are in financial need and unable to meet their basic living expenses. The program is administered by the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services, and facilitated locally by the City of Brantford Family and Income Stability department. The City of Brantford is also the service provider for social services, including FIS for the County of Brant.

David Bailey, Mayor for the County of Brant, shared his thoughts on the joint project between the two municipalities.
