BusinessBrantford business pleads guilty to Ontario Fire Code charges

A Brantford business was fined $10,000 for multiple offences under the Ontario Fire Code, as a result of a fire safety inspection.

907602 Ontario Inc. who owns and operates “The Gentlemen’s Club” at 235-239 Market Street in Brantford, Ontario pled guilty to five counts regarding five locked and/or obstructed exit doors found during a joint inspection the evening of September 1, 2022.

907602 Ontario Inc. was fined $1,600 plus victim surcharges for each count totaling $10,000 (inclusive of court costs) in Provincial Offences Court on May 17, 2023.

These convictions highlight the importance of complying with the Ontario Fire Code on a daily basis. The goal of property inspections is to ensure occupant safety through education and enforcement of the regulations detailed in the Ontario Fire Code and the Fire Protection and Prevention Act.

The Brantford Fire Department reminds property and business owners that they are required to be in compliance with the Ontario Fire Code at all times and failure to do so can result in sizeable fines.

Building owners or occupants who have any concerns regarding fire safety are encouraged to contact the Fire Prevention Division of the Brantford Fire Department at 519-752-0540. Additional fire safety information can also be found online at brantfordfire.ca.
