The Brant U-15 Tornadoes captured the championship at the Ontario Volleyball Association Trillium event in London, Ontario on Sunday, February 12, 2023.

The Tornadoes breezed through preliminary round play, opening the tournament with a straight sets victory over London Forest City VC 28-26 and 25-9. The Tornadoes continued their strong play in their second match, defeating London VC Fire Wild, 25-16, 25-16.

With the two wins, the Tornadoes advanced to the playoffs but had to overcome some adversity on their way to the championship. In their semifinal matchup against the London Sharks Hammerheads, they dropped the first set, 25-22 before winning the next two sets, 26-24 and 15-11 to head to the semifinals.

In the semis, the Tornadoes took on the St. Thomas Express and, once again, dropped the opening set before winning the last two, 25-11 and 15-6 to secure their spot in the gold medal match.

In the championship final the Tornadoes battled their first opponent of the tournament, London Forest City VC, winning in straight sets, 25-12 and 25-13.

Hunter Turkiewicz, head coach of the U-15 Tornadoes, was proud of her team’s effort over the course of the one-day tournament.

“We’re so proud of how hard the girls fought all day long.  We can’t wait to see where they go next,” said Turkiewicz.
