The Ontario Provincial Police have arrested a man from Thunder Bay after a 76-year-old woman in Brant County was swindled in an online romance scam.

Officers say the woman is out $18,000 after the two connected on a dating website.

Investigators say she started to send cash transfers, but later became suspicious and contacted police on July 19, 2022.

Chinasa Chijioke, 25, from Thunder Bay has been charged with fraud under $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear in a Brantford courthouse at a later date.

Brant OPP are continuing to investigate and expect more charges to be laid
