An officer with the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop in Paris after observing a vehicle commit a traffic violation at the intersection of Mechanic Street and Grand River Street North at approximately 1:02 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025.

Upon interacting with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. A roadside screening test was conducted, and the driver registered a fail. The driver was arrested and transported for further testing, which confirmed blood alcohol concentrations over the legal limit.

As a result, Matthew Carter, 32, of Brant County, has been charged with:

The accused’s vehicle was impounded for seven days, and his driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days under the Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) program.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 30, 2025.
