BME supports Catholic Diocese of Hamilton cemeteries

Local NewsBME supports Catholic Diocese of Hamilton cemeteries

Brant Municipal Enterprises Inc. (BME) announced that the Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Hamiton has entrusted them with delivering a reliable, respectful solution to address vandalism and theft across their properties.

These sacred spaces are deeply important to families and communities. The Diocese needed a way to improve safety without disturbing graves, monuments, or the peaceful nature of the grounds.

“This is a special project to BME,” said Ron Budreau, Executive Director of Brant Municipal Enterprises. “Having The Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Hamilton entrust us with the care of their sacred spaces is distinct from the types of projects we typically undertake. It is an honour to support them in this important work, and having several locations in the County of Brant makes it even more meaningful.”

Through the project, BME designed and installed a total of 14 off‑grid solar lighting and security units across cemetery locations throughout southwest Ontario, including the County of Brant, Hamilton, Milton, Guelph, Acton, and surrounding communities. The solution required no trenching or wiring, and there was not any disruption to existing cemetery plots, while providing dependable lighting and security year‑round.

“This project was incredibly important to us,” said Bill Tempelton from the Catholic Cemeteries. “Our cemeteries are sacred spaces where families come to reflect, honour and remember their loved ones. BME delivered a solution that protects our properties while respecting their dignity and beauty. The system has performed extremely well, even through the winter, and has already made a meaningful difference.”

Since installation, the Diocese has reported that the system has helped deter vandalism and theft while improving safety and providing peace of mind for cemetery staff and visitors. The lighting enhances visibility, and the integrated cameras provide an additional layer of protection.

This project reflects BME’s commitment to delivering thoughtful, reliable off‑grid solar solutions that protect important community spaces while respecting their purpose and significance.
