City of Brantford’s Red Light Camera Program became live and operational on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
The red light camera program is designed to modify aggressive driving behaviour and increase awareness of the dangers of running red lights. Earlier this year, the City of Brantford introduced a red light camera program that aims to make local streets safer for residents and all road users.
Five red light cameras are now live and fully operational, meaning violations are now being both recorded and enforced. Locations that are now live include:
- Veterans MP/ Blackburn Drive
- Wayne Gretzky/ Henry
- Clarence/ Icomm
- Wayne Gretzky/ Morton
- Market/Wellington
The cameras will capture images of vehicles that enter an intersection in spite of the traffic signal indicating red. The camera automatically takes two photos of the vehicle, one entering and one proceeding through the intersection, and is used to assist authorities with enforcing traffic laws.
Drivers are reminded that it is unsafe and illegal for motorists to enter an intersection after the traffic signal light has turned red. The set fine for running a red light is $325. The fine is issued to the owner of the vehicle, regardless of who is driving the vehicle at the time of the offence.
