Heather Vanner announces retirement from Food Bank

Local NewsHeather Vanner announces retirement from Food Bank

After 27 years of dedicated service to Community Resource Service, which operates the Brantford Food Bank and Community Employment Service Programs, Heather Vanner, who has been the Executive Director for 25 years, has announced she will retire effective August 31, 2026.

Since joining the organization in 1999 and becoming Executive Director in 2001, Heather has helped transform the agency into one of the community’s leading providers addressing food insecurity and providing employment services.

“I have been so proud to work for and lead this organization”, said Heather Vanner. “The thousands of people supported speaks to the impact and importance of the services provided.  But it couldn’t be done without the support of our community. I am so thankful to have met so many people, board members, donors, volunteers, community members, and of course various staff members over the years, who are so compassionate and committed to help.”

Under her leadership, the organization has significantly expanded its reach and impact.  Over one in ten people in Brantford currently access the services of this organization.

Today, overseeing a number of agency programs, including the Brantford Food Bank, Community Food Share network, Community Employment Service, Christmas Baskets, Income Tax Program, and Back to School Backpack Program along with a host of other agency initiatives, Heather leaves the organization with strengthened capacity and the ability to meet the growing needs of our community.

During Vanner’s tenure, she has built a dedicated and passionate staff team and strengthened the organization’s leadership and advocacy to address the growing needs of the community.

Board Chair, Sean Hauk praised Heather’s remarkable leadership and lasting impact, “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to thank Heather for her exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication and compassionate service over the past 25 years.  Her leadership and vision have strengthened every aspect of our organization. Her legacy will be felt for many years to come, and we wish her every happiness in her well-deserved retirement.”

The Board of Directors has initiated a transition process to ensure continued stability and strong leadership for the organization.
