County provides update on airport land negotiations

AirportCounty provides update on airport land negotiations

County of Brant provided an update on the status of ongoing discussions with the City of Brantford regarding the Brantford Airport lands on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

Facilitated discussions between the County of Brant and the City of Brantford are currently underway, led by the Office of the Provincial Land and Development Facilitator (OPLDF). A series of initial meetings have been scheduled throughout April 2026. At the conclusion of these meetings, both municipalities will assess the progress of discussions with a view to providing a further, more detailed progress update in May.

During this process, there will be opportunities for public engagement, and the County is committed to keeping the community informed every step of the way.

The Brantford Airport is owned and operated by the City of Brantford, while the underlying land falls within the jurisdiction of the County of Brant.

The City of Brantford submitted a request under Section 174 of the Municipal Act to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. This request asked the Province to examine potential restructuring options for the Airport lands.

On March 10, 2026, the County of Brant received official communication from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing directing that negotiations begin between the two municipalities regarding a potential boundary adjustment for the Airport lands. County Council formally received this communication on March 24, 2026.

The correspondence establishes a deadline of June 30, 2026, for both municipalities to reach an agreement.

Discussions will continue throughout April, with progress being reviewed at the end of the scheduled meetings. A further update will be provided in May 2026.
