Brant OPP investigating vandalism incident

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are requesting the public’s assistance following a substantial act of vandalism that occurred overnight in the Railway Street and Market Street area.

Between approximately 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., an estimated 745 metres of chain‑link fencing was deliberately cut at each individual fence post, resulting in damages totaling roughly $100,000. Investigators believe that power tools were used to commit the extensive damage.

Given the scale and coordinated nature of the incident, police suspect that multiple individuals were involved. The OPP is also looking to identify any vehicles that may have been parked in or circulating through the Railway Street/Market Street area during the early‑morning hours.

Residents and business owners in the Railway Street and Market Street vicinity are asked to review any security cameras, dash cameras, or surveillance systems for suspicious activity during the above timeframe.

Police are particularly interested in:

  • Any unusual noises, including the sound of power tools
  • Unknown individuals on foot
  • Vehicles parked in the area or driving in a suspicious manner

39-year-old facing multiple charges after traffic stop

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Brant County Detachment has charged a driver following a traffic stop in Brant County.

On March 13, 2026, at approximately 1:55 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop at the 403 Highway west at the King George Off Ramp, in the County of Brant. Through investigation, it was determined that while the driver had a valid licence, the individual was using licence plates not authorized for the vehicle and had no current insurance coverage.

As a result, a 39-year-old driver from Woodstock has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance
  • Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle
  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

The OPP is reminding all motorists that anyone operating a motor vehicle on a highway must hold a valid driver’s licence, and the vehicle must be properly insured. Drivers are also cautioned that using licence plates not authorized for a vehicle is an arrestable offence under the Highway Traffic Act. Once a vehicle changes ownership, the new owner is required to update the vehicle permit as soon as practicable and ensure the vehicle is insured before it is driven on any roadway.

The driver is to appear in Brantford court on May 21, 2026.
