County of Brant firefighters to conduct controlled burn

County of BrantCounty of Brant firefighters to conduct controlled burn

County of Brant Firefighters will conduct a controlled burn to train firefighters and officers in fire attack strategies and fire dynamics on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

“These controlled burn exercises allow our crews to train in real-world conditions while maintaining a strong focus on safety,” said Fire Chief Darren Watson. “It supports the development of our newest members and reinforces the expertise of our seasoned firefighters and Fire Safety Officers.”

The training will cover fire attack size-ups, fire dynamics, and evaluating thermal cameras. A fire attack size-up is the continuous evaluation of a fire scene, starting from the alarm until the fire is controlled. Fire dynamics involve understanding how fires start, spread, and extinguish.

Training Schedule:

  • Saturday, February 28 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at 73 West River Road, Paris.

“Please avoid the area if possible during the controlled burn, as it will be smoky and there will be multiple fire service vehicles on-site,” added Chief Watson.
