City of Brantford celebrated the grand opening of its newest recreation facility; a new lawn bowling green at the Walter Gretzky Municipal Golf Course and Learning Centre on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
The celebration featured live entertainment from local band Barcode, free open play and guided lessons for attendees following a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Memberships for Brantford’s newest recreation facility are now available for purchase at the Golf Course Pro Shop.
“Today’s celebration highlights the City of Brantford’s commitment to providing high-quality recreational spaces for everyone in Brantford,” said City of Brantford Councillor Rose Sicoli. “This facility will be a gathering place for residents to connect, learn a new sport, and enjoy friendly competition for years to come.”
The new lawn bowling green was built to complement the clubhouse at the Walter Gretzky Municipal Golf Course and Learning Centre and has been constructed to meet tournament standards. The fully enclosed seasonal lawn bowling green features lighting, a 6 x 6 metre sheltered area with seating, a storage shed, and attractive landscaping.
“It’s wonderful to see this new lawn bowling facility open for the community to enjoy,” said Councillor Gino Caputo. “This is a fantastic addition to our recreational amenities, offering residents of all ages a new opportunity to stay active, connect with friends and neighbours, and enjoy time outdoors. I look forward to seeing this space become a vibrant hub for recreation and community spirit.”
Lawn bowling memberships are now available for purchase at the Walter Gretzky Municipal Golf Course Pro Shop. The rinks will be open for the 2025 season until October, weather permitting. Members can enjoy unlimited drop-in play during schedules times:
- Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
This season’s membership rate is $75 per person, including HST. Full details are available at www.Brantford.ca/LawnBowling.
In addition, the City is seeking volunteers to assist with the lawn bowling program. Those interested can email volunteer@brantford.ca. Rink sponsorship opportunities are also available and include two branded signs on either side of a lawn bowling rink. The cost to sponsor one rink is $565 for the season.
