Mayor David Bailey and County of Brant Council welcomed the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honourable Edith Dumont to the County of Brant on Thursday, July 10 and Friday, July 11, 2025.
“We were privileged to have welcomed the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honourable Edith Dumont, to the County of Brant, and we appreciate her taking the time to visit,” said Mayor Bailey. “Her Honour shares a vision that I connect with, which is a commitment to building relationships, working together, and encouraging diversity and inclusion within our community. She spoke passionately about the importance of uplifting young people and inspiring them to reach their full potential; recognizing that it is our youth who will shape the future and achieve the extraordinary.”
The Honourable Edith Dumont is the 30th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and the first Francophone to hold the office. She was appointed following a long and distinguished career in education.
While in Brant, Dumont met with Bailey at Council Chambers in downtown Paris. This was followed by a luncheon with a group of local students, who were given the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on topics relevant to their lives and those of their peers; an especially fitting dialogue given Dumont’s role in education.
Following the visit to Paris, Mayor Bailey and Her Honour attended the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics in Brantford.
On the second day of Dumont’s visit, she attended the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead in St. George. As a champion for women’s rights and contributions, the visit to the homestead was a particularly fitting choice. While there, Mayor Bailey and Her Honour toured the historic site, followed by a roundtable discussion with members of the Federated Women’s Institute of Canada.
After the discussion, Mayor Bailey, Dumont, members of County of Brant Council, roundtable participants, and invited guests gathered in the pavilion for tea and refreshments.
“Thank you to everyone who contributed to Her Honour’s visit to Brant,” said Mayor Bailey. “We are so grateful she was able to join us and take part in meaningful conversations with our youth, community leaders, and organizations. Her presence was an honour, and we hope she enjoyed her time here as much as we enjoyed hosting her.”
