SOAR receives grant from Home Depot Foundation

Local NewsSOAR receives grant from Home Depot Foundation

SOAR Community Services received a $75,000 grant from The Home Depot Canada Foundation for the implementation of a Transitional  Housing After Care program on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

This initiative aims to provide youth who successfully complete SOAR’s Cornerstone Transitional Housing Program with ongoing support for up to three months as they navigate the changes that come with living independently.

“We understand that having a stable residence is essential for youth who have experienced homelessness; and we know that their healing journey does not end once a lease is signed,” said Danielle Airdrie, Director of Services (Housing).

Airdrie says the goal is long-term, stable housing. “We know that investing in a youth’s successful transition to housing  through individual support and social inclusion gives the person a sense of stability through  significant life changes.”

Similar projects across Canada indicate that youth who experience a supported transition are more likely to have successful long-term tenancies.

The Transitional Housing After Care Program, which will launch in June 2025, provides youth moving from Transitional Housing to independent living an opportunity to continue receiving one-on-one support to help navigate new challenges, attend weekly groups, and  complete referrals to programs that can offer ongoing support. Youth homelessness continues to be on the rise in Canada, and now more than ever youth need wrap-around support. This partnership will help youth access ongoing services that build skills and resiliency to exit the cycle of homelessness for good.
