On Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at approximately 5:40 p.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed suspicious activity involving occupants of two vehicles parked in a parking lot, located near Colborne Street and Park Avenue.

Officers observed an exchange, believed to be a drug transaction between two men, who were in adjacent vehicles. As police entered the parking lot, one of the vehicles fled the scene. In speaking with the driver of the remaining vehicle, officers observed cannabis in view, readily available to the driver.

As a result, a search of the accused and the motor vehicle was conducted under the Cannabis Act and located the following: approximately 21.70 grams of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of $2,170, drug paraphernalia, including a digital scale and packaging material and Canadian currency. 

As a result, Jake Stephen PALANIO, 21, of Brantford, stands charged with the following:

  • Trafficking in Substance – Cocaine, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 
  • Possession for the Purpose Schedule I – Cocaine, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Have Care or Control of Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available, contrary to the Cannabis Control Act

The accused is being held for a bail hearing.
