What do zombie outbreaks, howling werewolves and haunted houses reveal about the world we live in? The latest instalment in Wilfrid Laurier University’s Hawk Talk and Trivia series features criminologist Andrew Welsh presenting “Why Horror Haunts Us,” an engaging talk exploring how horror films reflect the fears, anxieties and social issues of their time.
From Cold War classics to modern psychological thrillers, Welsh will examine why horror remains one of cinema’s most enduring and popular genres, just in time for Halloween.
Following the presentation, put your pop culture knowledge to the test during a Halloween-themed trivia challenge, with prizes for the top-performing team or individual.
The free event is open to community members, alumni, students, faculty and staff. Complimentary snacks will be provided, and a cash bar will be available.
Advance registration is recommended as space is limited.
